Raider Band - Directed by
Mr. Toney and Staff
The Raider Band is made up of all of our performing ensembles combined.
All students in the band program at North Garland High School are
required to participate in the Raider Band. During the Fall, the
Raider Band rehearses Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 5:15.
Emphasis is on marching skills and playing while on the move. The
Raider Band performs at all football games, labor day parade, two
to four marching contests per year and a weekly pep rally.
Honors Band - Mr. Toney,
Director
The Honors Band is the top concert performing group at North Garland
High School. Admission is by audition. Students perform Grade 5
literature and most go on to play in college. This Band Participates
in UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest. Students involved in the
Honors Band are expected to attend our annual trip and to participate
in UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest. They are also encouraged to take
private lessons and try out for the All Region Band.
Symphonic Band - Mr. Lira,
Director
The Symphonic Band is the second concert performing group at North
Garland High School. Admission is by audition. Students perform
Grade 3 literature. This Band Participates in UIL Concert and Sightreading
Contest. Students involved in the Symphonic Band combine with the
concert band to compete on our annual trip. Symphonic Band students
are expected to participate in UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest. They
are also encouraged to take private lessons.
Concert Band - Ms.
LeDoux, Director
The Concert Band is the third concert performing group
at North Garland High School. Admission is by audition. Students
perform Grade 3 literature. This Band does not participate in UIL
Concert and Sightreading Contest. Students involved in the Concert
Band combine with the Symphonic Band to compete on our annual trip.
Concert Band students are expected to participate in UIL Solo and
Ensemble Contest. They are also encouraged to take private lessons.
Jazz Band
- Mr. Toney, Director
The Jazz Band is a select group of students interested in jazz and
in performing. Enrollment in another band ensemble is a requirement
for all but the piano and bass. Students study jazz improvisation
and styles of jazz. Community service performances are a regular
event for the Jazz Band. Students are expected to sightread well
and keep an open schedule for the many performances we do throughout
the year.
Percussion
Ensemble - Ms. LeDoux
The Percussion Ensemble meets throughout the year. Admission is
by audition. During the Fall, curriculum is focused on Marching
Band and fundamental percussion technique. . In the Spring, the
Percussion Ensemble performs many styles of music in assemblies,
concerts, and community service.
Convergence
Winterguard - Mr. Tucker, Director
This all volunteer group is an extension of the marching band color
guard. Rehearsals begin in December and the ensemble rehearses and
competes through April. Convergence meets 3 day per week after school
and also employs a volunteer floor crew of around 10.
Steel Band - Mr. Toney, coordinator
The Steel Band is an all volunteer group that meets once a week
during the spring semester. All students from inside the band program
are welcome. Mr Toney provides direction and instruction. This group
is new to us, but we expect itwill become an important music ambassador
for North Garland High School and for the Raider Band.
