Todd

Mr. Toney has been the head band director at North Garland
since the fall of 1993. Prior to that, he taught in Sulphur Springs,
at Bussey Middle School in Garland and South Garland High School.
Mr. Toney directs the Honors Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, and
Steel Drum Ensemble.
Mr. Toney grew up in Richardson and attended Richardson High School.
A 1983 graduate of Southern Methodist University, he was a saxophone
major and was selected as the outstanding music education student
his senior year. He is a lifetime member of Texas Parent Teacher's
Association and a four time nominee to Who's
Who Among American Teachers.
Mr. Toney is currently President of Texas
Music Educator's Association Region 3, a member of the Board
of Governors for the Dallas Wind Symphony
and the lead high school band director for
Garland ISD.
He is married to Deborah Bosworth, an attorney, and has a Golden
Retriever named Foster.

Mr. Payne has been an assistant at North Garland High School
from 1996 - 2002 and returned to us in 2008. Before coming to NG,
Mr. Payne has also taught in Brownwood, Lubbock and most recently
spent 5 years teaching in Mesquite.
Mr. PAyne grew up in Shreveport and Amarillo, where he attended
Amarillo HS. He attended Texas Tech University, where he studied
the trumpet, earning his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. He directs
the Symphonic Band and teaches Beginner Percussion at Bussey Middle
School. Mr. Payne is still active as a performer, playing trumpet
with the Frist Baptist Church, Richardson on a regular basis.
His hobbies include golf, the trumpet and supporting his college
sports teams.

Previous to his appointment with North Garland High School, John
May taught private percussion lessons in various school districts
in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He recently completed coursework
toward a Ph.D. in music education at the University of North Texas
and is in the final stages of completing that degree. He has taught
at East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi and served
as Director of Bands for Clarksville Independent School District
in Clarksville, Texas. Mr. May earned his Bachelor of Music Education
and Master of Music Education degrees from Delta State University
in Cleveland, Mississippi. He has performed in many percussion ensembles
at UNT, including advanced Steel Band, Afro-Cuban Ensemble and African
Ensemble.
Mr. May has published one article, “Swing Style,” in
the July 2007 issue of The Instrumentalist, has signed
a contract with Teaching Music in regard to an article
entitled, “Improving Student Practice: A Look at Quantity
and Quality,” and has submitted two additional articles, one
to The Instrumentalist and one to Percussive Notes.
Moreover, Mr. May has served as a contributing editor and writer
for the Texas Chapter of Percussive Arts Society Newsletter.
Frank Reed-frankreed601@tx.rr.com
Mr. Reed has been on our private teaching staff since 1999 and joined
us in 2003 as our Brass Tech. He completed high school in Omaha,
Nebraska, studied Music Education as a trumpet major at The University
of Nebraska, and Jazz Studies at North Texas State University. Mr.
Reed was a longtime member of the Bill Tillman band and performed
for twelve years with Dallas Brass and Electric. He has played with
Brian Setzer Orchestra and appeared on David Letterman. As a free-lance
musician, Mr. Reed has performed with the Temptations, the Four
Tops, The O'Jays, Jack Jones, Mel Torme, Phyllis Diller, Frank Sinatra
Jr., and many others. In addition, he played the National Anthem
for the Dallas Cowboy Trumpets for four years, and has performed
for four U.S. presidents.
Mr. Reed currently performs with the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra
and the Phares Corder Big Band in addtion to his free-lance opportunities.

Ms. Tims graduated from North Garland High in 2005 and is currently
a clarinet and music eduacation major at the University of North
Texas. She is a valuable member of the UNT marching band and guard.
While at North Garland, Ms. Tims was Drum Major and performed with
our WInter Guard.
